Make a Wish trip
We woke up early to go to Animal Kingdom. Don't let the name fool you into thinking this is a zoo. Sure there are animals here and there but there are dinosaur rides, crazy play lands for the kids, and the best was a ride in a jeep out in what could have been an African Safari. Lions lounging with no cages in sight, majestic african elephants proudly coming up over a hill, it was magnificent!
The second half of the day was at Epcot. Epcot was actually the least entertaining of the parks. There were some good things about it. There was a fascinating simulator ride called Mission space that was just as if you were taking a space shuttle to mars. It's the only ride I've ever gone on where they provide each rider with a doggy bag. It was in a small enclosed space which didn't do well for claustrophobic Megan, it was realistic which didn't do well for my motion sick prone husband, but Ethan LOVED it. It thought it was fun, but knew I shouldn't do it twice in a row.
I came to the trip with a pretty good head cold which I promptly shared with Megan. That night Megan was really wiped out and climbed into bed and fell soundly asleep while the rest of us were still making noise brushing teeth and getting in to pajamas. We were all about ready to turn out the light when the fire alarm went off. John and I looked at each other, knowing there was no fire, but the alarm in our room was announcing "ALARM! ALARM! ALARM!" I poked my head into the hall to find the alarms going off all up and down the hall. John and I kind of looked at each other and I said "Well, guess we go outside." I shook Megan by the shoulder (she was still asleep) and told her the fire alarm was going off and we needed to go outside, grabbed Colin in one arm, Natalie by the hand and Ethan trailing behind me. I wasn't exactly sure where John was, but I was headed out.
We went down to the lobby where quite a crowd had gathered and they ushered us outside until the fire department could come check things out. We were all out in our pajamas and since I had gone out without my contacts I was blind as a bat. To give you an idea of how bad my eyesight is, if I read a magazine without my contacts I have to hold it so close to my face I have to pull it back to turn the page - blind. I kept my kids really close because if they got 5 feet away from me I couldn't see them anymore. So John and Megan joined us outside. Colin was the star of the show, going from group to group of people to smile and say Hi and dance. After a good 45 minutes they finally let us back in our room. The next morning we got a note saying the cause was a burned out motor in one of the elevators.
